Throwback Thursday: Simple Placemats

This was a simple placemat project for Christina's birthday in 2013. I made two of each of these designs, sized around 14"x18". The panels on each are the same size, just arranged differently. With a seam allowance of 1/2", the larger rectangles are 15"x9" and the green strip is 15"x3".

Woven Fabrics

Today we're going to discuss woven fabrics, and how they're constructed. Woven textiles have very little to no stretch built into their structure. The lengthwise threads of woven fabric are called the warp, and the crosswise threads are the weft. The weft is woven through the warp, and the warp is what gets wrapped around the bolt.

Throwback Thursday: Square Tablecloth

It's been a long time since I regularly updated a blag, so I have a large backlog of projects that I'd like to talk about. Since it's Thursday, I think it's the right day for a past project! This first one is a really simple tablecloth project, which you can easily mimic for your own table.

Fabric Basics

A textile arts blag would be remiss if it didn't start with a basic discussion about textiles. This post is a crash course on understanding fabric properties, which will help you make the right choices later when you're working on sewing projects.

Textile Arts!

Welcome to my new blag!

I've set up this space with the intention of being more proactive about writing about things that I'm interested in. I'm going to post weekly on three topics: techniques, past projects, and current projects. Most of these will be around sewing and knitting, but I'll occasionally throw in some weaving or wirework ideas, too!
