While we were at the cabin in Acadia, I branched out a bit into some cross-stitch embroidery, which I haven't done in ages.
Fair warning if you aren't a fan of swear words: this pattern is from Subversive Cross Stitch, and is pretty overt about it.
There aren't many options for travelling to Acadia; the nearest airport is very small, and costly to fly into, and you need a car to get around the park anyway. We ended taking the train from New York into Boston, renting a car there, and then driving the rest of the way.
During the train ride, Spousal Unit expressed concern that I would get bored in the cabin with no sewing machine, and just my knitting, which was all stockinette. So I spent a fair amount of the train trip looking at their website on my phone, and eventually bought one. Oh, the wonders of mobile connectivity. During one of our pit stops between Boston and Acadia, I made a quick trip into a Michael's to get some supplies.
And then this happened. I'll have you know that this is listed as an advanced pattern, so I am pretty hard core. I even picked out my own colour scheme.
And check out the back! What's the point of having your own craft blog if you don't show off stuff like that?
When I finished, I started thinking about the ramifications of such a fancy piece of embroidery. I'm pretty sure this is the sort of thing my mother would frown upon (Hi, Mom!), and I don't often frame things I've made. Then I remembered that our guest bath has an embroidered version of this Magritte/Mario cross-over, so obviously the best place for this objet d'art is our other washroom. Phew! CRISIS AVERTED.
